What’s the new AI tech that we are talking about? 🤔

Wait! It’s not just us - everyone is talking about it. 💯

The new AI tech that is taking the world by storm is ChatGPT. Who developed it? OpenAI! OpenAI defines itself as an artificial intelligence research and deployment company that is focused at ensuring that the technologies that they develop are beneficial to humanity. An interesting fact to note here is that OpenAI, an AI company, defines AI as “highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work”. Some notable investors in OpenAI that have steered the path toward the adoption of AI are Microsoft, Khosla Ventures, and Reid Hoffman’s charitable foundation, among others. 💰

Now, what does this technology do? Let’s give you a lil brief! ⬇️

Lil bit about ChatGPT ⬇️-

ChatGPT is a chatbot that is developed using artificial intelligence, by OpenAI. With its initial release only being on 30th November 2022, which is very very recent - it is fair to say that ChatGPT has revolutionized how people view research! Within one week, ChatGPT was able to garner more than one million users. Its functional mechanism is such that it is equipped as well as fine-tuned with reinforcement learning and supervised techniques, in order to ensure that it is as effective as possible. 💪🏼

With ChatGPT, doing everything from writing essays and assignments to answering questions of a varied range, to even writing computer programs - this AI technology is a force to reckon with. With the answers given, usually being slightly conversational in nature - the user’s interest is often retained better than a series of links being displayed to them. While this technology is free now, OpenAI has indicated that they do aim to monetize it eventually. 💰

Let’s face the reality head-on - ChatGPT is not free of flaws. It is at the end of the day, an AI chatbot. OpenAI themselves have repeatedly warned that the accuracy of the answers provided by ChatGPT cannot be guaranteed, therefore implying that ChatGPT can give out wrong information as well. Quite often, ChatGPT also has its own limits in terms of how much it understands the data that it has been able to harvest and comb, in relation to a specific question. On the other hand, OpenAI is also constantly working to improve its product and the recent December 15th, 2022 update shows that ChatGPT is now less likely to refuse to answer questions. This definitely increases the probability of receiving a close to an accurate answer. 🥳

When you try to launch ChatGPT, it’s also interesting to note that fun facts are provided during the ‘loading’ page, which would increase your knowledge regarding AI, ML, and other such deep tech. This is a very plausible way to subtly increase awareness regarding deep tech, among the masses.

Now, how will ChatGPT affect DAOs? 💭

ChatGPT as a tool, while may not have an absolute direct impact on DAOs, it could certainly be fruitful in various different aspects of a DAO. For instance, it is possible that a language model like ChatGPT could be used to assist in the decision-making process or governance within a DAO, by generating reports or summaries of relevant information for members to consider when voting on proposals. These could be beneficial in ensuring that the voting is more informed, thereby automatically ensuring that the decision that is reached upon by voting - is a well-informed one. Good decisions are what determine a DAO’s success and good decisions also drive a DAO’s success. A tool like ChatGPT that can only elevate this possibility, is a tool that then becomes a must-have! 😏

ChatGPT could also intersect with DAOs through the use of natural language processing (NLP) in smart contracts. Since smart contracts are self-executing contracts, these are often written in a programming language like Solidity. However, NLP technology could potentially be used to enable smart contracts to be written in natural language, making them more accessible and understandable to non-tech users. 📚

A definite notable benefit that ChatGPT could bring with it, to the world of DAOs, is that this tool could potentially be used for language translation and this could make DAOs more accessible if this is something that a certain DAO is aiming towards! This would allow members who speak different languages to more easily collaborate and participate in decision-making processes. Catering towards a global audience by breaking language barriers within your DAO can definitely be a recipe for moving onwards and upwards! 🌏🚀

Last but never least - and this is the most important, rather obvious benefit - ChatGPT can be used in the realm of content creation for DAOs. Since DAOs often rely on communication and transparency to function effectively, ChatGPT could potentially be used to generate content for DAO-related materials such as reports, updates, and proposals. For example, ChatGPT could be used to generate meeting agendas or minutes or to create reports on the performance of the DAO. This could also streamline the process of content creation thereby saving immense amounts of time and resources. This content creation activity could also extend to social media posts. ChatGPT can assist in that too! 🙌🏼

Teeny Tiny Disclaimer! 🤏🏼

However, a teeny tiny disclaimer that would be relevant to insert here would be that ChatGPT’s effect on DAOs can by no means be uniform and universal in nature - instead, this would depend on the specific design and implementation of the DAO and how it chooses to incorporate such a tool. 🤕

For instance, a DAO that implements a governance mechanism wherein all members of the DAO vote on every decision - it would only help to use ChatGPT to provide a brief summary of the relevant information to the members. This would not only save their time for research but would ensure that everyone is on the same page. This would guarantee that there is lesser voter fatigue as well! 🙌🏼

However, if the governance model is that of delegated voting wherein members choose specific delegates to represent them and in the end, only a few chosen expert delegates vote on matters - ChatGPT as a tool could definitely help summarize the discussions that undertook, by the delegates themselves thereby outlining the intention behind a delegate’s choice - and present this information to the members in a concise manner. This would allow the members to constantly keep a check on the delegates that they have chosen as well! ✔️

ChatGPT’s prompt

As it can be seen here, upon launching ChatGPT’s API, there’s a brief dataset showcasing the examples, capabilities, and limitations. Other notable limitations that may be applicable when talking about the intersection between ChatGPT and DAOs, include that the AI model is trained in a manner that there’s only limited knowledge of the world and of the events after 2021. This could definitely be impactful, considering the news surrounding crypto in 2022 that ChatGPT does not even know about! 🗞️

What’s the future: ChatGPT x DAOs? 🔮

Overall, the intersection between ChatGPT and DAOs holds promise for improving efficiency and accessibility within decentralized organizations. By leveraging the power of language models, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and image generation, DAOs can potentially streamline their processes and make it easier for members to collaborate and contribute to decision-making. 🚀
